Itinerary
ITINERARY:
DAY 1: LAGUNA HUMANTAY TOUR
Early in the morning at 4:00 AM, our transportation will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, and we will begin our journey by tourist transport heading northeast of the city of Cusco. During the trip, we will pass through various towns and villages until we reach the town of Limatambo. From this point, we will ascend to the village of Mollepata, where we will have a buffet-style breakfast. Afterward, we will continue by transport for about one more hour until we reach the end of the road at Soraypampa.
Upon arrival in Soraypampa, our guide will give us the necessary recommendations and provide us with a walking stick. Here, we will begin our hike towards Laguna Humantay. The hike takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. If you wish, you can rent horses along the route (paid in cash and soles, at your own expense). Upon reaching Laguna Humantay, located at 4,200 meters (about 13,780 feet), you will be able to appreciate the beautiful landscape, with the imposing views of the Humantay and Salkantay snow-capped mountains.
After a rest, we will take as many photos as we want, and our guide will explain more about the place and its enigmatic views. We will then return by the same route, walking back to Soraypampa. We will take our transportation and head back to Mollepata, where we will enjoy a delicious lunch.
Finally, we will return to the city of Cusco and drop you off at a point near the Plaza de Armas, arriving around 5:30 PM.
DAY 2: TOUR TO MACHUPICCHU BY TRAIN
Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, depending on the train schedule, and transport you to the Ollantaytambo train station (1 hour and 40 minutes by car). [If the train departs from Poroy, the car ride is 30 minutes, followed by a 3.5-hour train ride.]
Upon arrival at the Poroy or Ollantaytambo station, we will board the train to the town of Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Pueblo. During our train journey, we will enjoy spectacular landscapes, towering mountains, rivers, and a wide variety of flora and fauna typical of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo), an agency staff member (guide or transfer) will be waiting to provide us with all the necessary information as we head to the bus station. We will board the bus for a zigzagging 30-minute journey up the mountain to the entrance of the majestic Machu Picchu citadel, at 2,430 meters (7,970 feet) above sea level.
Once we disembark from the bus, we will meet up with the group and head to the entrance control, where we will present our ticket and identification. Then, we will begin a guided tour of the Machu Picchu citadel, which will last approximately 2.5 hours. The guide will share the fascinating history of the Incas, the impressive architecture, and the deep spiritual significance of this place while we explore the most iconic corners, enjoy panoramic views, and take unforgettable photos of this world wonder.
At the end of the tour, we will take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, where we can enjoy lunch (not included) at one of the local restaurants or spend free time exploring the town, visiting the medicinal hot springs, or browsing the artisan market.
In the afternoon, depending on our train schedule, we will head to the train station to board the return train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo (approximately 2 hours) or to Poroy (approximately 3.5 hours), where the agency staff will be waiting to transport us back to the city of Cusco. We will arrive in Cusco around 8:30 PM, concluding a day full of discovery and adventure.
