Itinerary

ITINERARY:

At approximately 08:30, we will pick you up at your hotel or accommodation to begin the tour of the South Valley. We will travel in our transportation to the impressive archaeological complex of Tipón, where you will discover an extraordinary system of agricultural terraces, which were part of an Inca temple dedicated to the cult of water. This site is famous for its fountains and canals, which not only served as irrigation infrastructure, but also for ceremonial purposes. The water fountains are an example of advanced Inca hydraulic engineering, with aqueducts that supplied water to the terraces and other areas of the site, reflecting the great technical skill of this civilization.

After exploring Tipón, we will continue our tour by transport to the archaeological site of Pikillaqta, a city belonging to the pre-Inca Wari culture. This settlement, which flourished before the Inca expansion, is notable for its defensive wall and its unique architecture, different from that of the Incas. Pikillaqta is composed of urban areas, religious areas and recreational spaces, which were reused after the arrival of the Incas. This site offers a fascinating insight into the organization and social structure of the Wari culture, which was one of the most influential in the Andes.

Next, we will head to the town of Andahuaylillas, where we will visit its famous church, considered the “Sistine Chapel of South America.” This Catholic temple, dedicated to Saint Peter, stands out for its dazzling baroque ornamentation, which includes colonial frescoes and paintings, as well as artistic details that reflect Andean syncretism. The church’s decorations are a testimony to the encounter between indigenous traditions and Spanish influence, a legacy that is still preserved.

Finally, we will begin our return to Cusco, but first we will make a stop in the town of Oropesa, known for its delicious “chuta” breads, a specialty of the Cusco region. You will have the opportunity to purchase these traditional breads and, after this break, we will continue the trip back to the city, where this tour full of history, culture and unforgettable landscapes will conclude.

Upon arrival in Cusco, you will be able to rest after this enriching experience.
